THÉÂTRE SAINTE-CATHERINE – TSC

SPROINK & OINK (Montréal)

Sproink & Oink is a local Montreal sketch group that consistently produces hilarious shows. You will laugh, you will cry. You will be moved by iconic characters such as “French Baby.” What else is there to say except Sproink & Oink. Sproink & Oink. Sproink & Oink.

SPROINK & OINK Photo
JONAH BORDER (Montréal)

Jonah Border is one of the four founding members of Tandem Jump, Montreal’s premiere monthly sketch comedy show. Now come watch him perform solo comedy for only the second time in his short, short life (I just have a kind of hunch that he’ll die young). If you are a fan of Norm Macdonald, Larry David, or Tim Robinson, well then please come but jsyk it won’t be as good as that.

JONAH BORDER Photo
RAKHEE MORZARIA (Toronto)

Rakhee Morzaria is a multi-award-nominated comedic actor, lead on hit Hulu comedy, Run the Burbs, with filmmaking showcased in Kevin Hart’s Just for Laughs short film competition, and digital series, Note to Self, nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. FRIDAY MAY 2nd | 8pm | TSC > MTL Sketchfest with SELF CARE CLOWN (MTL), POTATO POTATO (TO), and SMALL FRIEND TALL FRIEND (TO)

THÉÂTRE SAINTE-CATHERINE – TSC

SELF CARE CLOWN (Montréal)

Self Care Clown 🤡 is a sketch that took 14 years to live and grow first before writing. 14 years in the making: A clown experiences heartbreak at the beginning of young adulthood and must go back to heal their past selves through clown dance and stand up jokes and list of sketch jokes and storytelling comedy. This is Self Care Clown or Schlepping The Clown! 🤡 Comedian and Storyteller Aloe Azimov helps out.

SELF CARE CLOWN Photo
POTATO POTATO (Toronto)

Your favourite tater tots are back to weaponize their theatre degrees with another song-filled sketch revue about politics, climate change, and the hilariously apocalyptic state of the world. In a world obsessed with the US, Potato Potato is here to throw light (and shade) on the Canadian side of the story. Part political satire, part sketch show, and with a generous dose of dread- prepare for recycled props, catchy musical parodies, and surprise visits from your (least) favourite politicians.

POTATO POTATO Photo
SMALL TALL FRIEND TALL FRIEND (Toronto)

Small Friend Tall Friend is a dynamic sketch-comedy group founded by Becky Ablack and Zoe Marín. Known for their sharp wit and playful absurdity, the troupe has been making waves in the Toronto comedy scene. Most recently, they performed their sketch revue Queen Out of Service at the 20th Annual Toronto SketchFest, alongside troupe members David Civcic and Stephanie Perri. In July 2023, they brought their hit show Do You Think You’re Better Than Me? to the Toronto Fringe Festival and Hamilton Fringe Festival, receiving glowing reviews from Intermission Magazine, Parton and Pearl, So Sumi, and more. The show’s success was further cemented when it was named Critics’ Pick at the Hamilton Fringe Festival 2023. Following this momentum, Small Friend Tall Friend returned to Hamilton in October for The Staircase’s Take Two Festival, a showcase of the best comedy performances from the Hamilton Fringe. They have gone on to perform at festivals, including The Theatre Centre’s Comedy Is Art Festival in 2024. Beyond festivals, the group regularly performs sketch and musical comedy throughout Toronto, bringing their unique comedic voice to various stages. Their humour is rooted in pop culture, identity politics, and the awkward realities of being in their early 20s. They draw inspiration from boundary-pushing artists such as Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave), Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle (PEN15), Ziwe, Garfunkel and Oates, Bo Burnham, and Julio Torres.

FRIDAY MAY 2nd | 10pm | TSC > MTL Sketchfest with ALASDAIR T-B (MTL), 24 DOUBLE B (TO) and CHEAP WINE (TO)

THÉÂTRE SAINTE-CATHERINE – TSC

ALASDAIR T-B (Montréal)

Alasdair Tremblay-Birchall likes sketch and for over ten years has come up with ideas for sketches on the Two in the Think Tank podcast. On occasions he will turn those sketch ideas into sketches.

ALASDAIR T-B Photo
24 DOUBLE B (Toronto)

24 Double B is not just here for the classic fart jokes (though don’t worry, those are still on the menu), but they’re also ready to drop some surprisingly deep takes on the sociopolitical landscape. It’s like a smooth blend of comedy and commentary, with just enough lightheartedness to keep you comfy, casual, and totally ready for a night of sketch comedy that’ll make you think, laugh, and maybe even question your life choices—all without getting too heavy. However almost the entirety of what you just read was a lie.

24 DOUBLE B Photo
CHEAP WINE (Toronto)

Cheap Wine is family. For real, they are in-laws. As in they spend holidays together and two of them have the same parents and two of them have a marriage certificate. Try to figure out who is what to who, how much is based on real life, and if spending this much time together is healthy. A family troupe! That’s sweet and wholesome, but it’s also kind of weird! Toronto Sketchfest 2025 Winners of the AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD “The perfect mix of deadpan and whackadoodle”, Cheap Wine is Jack Creaghan, Jesse McQueen & Charlotte Creaghan. They were the Sketchiest Sketch Troupe at Toronto Sketchfest 2023, and they have performed all around Toronto, New York City, and at Montréal Sketchfest. They also make comedy films, and those have screened at some festivals and won some awards. One of Jack’s films, The Future is a Joke? won the Toronto Sketchfest 2024 Film Festival. Jesse was in it. Charlotte wasn’t, but she was in another movie (In A Violent Nature) that went to Sundance and she got to go to that instead! Their inspirations are their own real-life insecurities, embarrassments, frustrations and fears. Cause that’s the good stuff!

ANDERS YATES (Montréal/Toronto)

Solo-sketch powerhouse Anders Yates returns with his latest half-hour creation in which he promises to literally invent the concept of sketch comedy itself from scratch. A founding member of legendary troupes like Uncalled For and Dance Animal, Anders is currently a cast member in the Second City’s National Touring Company, which is a touring company in that they mostly just perform in the same theatre in Toronto three nights a week, but could definitely go on the road if they felt like it. Anders’ solo sketch comedy won him the Montreal Sketchfest’s Best of the Fest Award in 2022 and Outstanding Solo Performance for his 2020 Toronto Sketchfest show. My Entertainment World has called Anders “One of Toronto’s very best comedy performers […] Yates is as surefire as it comes!” His new show explores queerness, movie fandom, and that little hammer that they use at the doctor’s office and what it is really capable of.

ORANGE JUICE COMEDY (Montréal)

Usually we’re Oli and Jer, and last year we were just Oli with Jer on video, and now this year we’re going to be Jer with a little bit of Oli, maybe on video, maybe in the writing, maybe in all of our hearts. A fun fact about us: We’re right behind you aren’t we?

ORANGE JUICE COMEDY Photo

They joined forces after hitting it off in their Second City Improv 1 class. Most recently, the Red Hot Sili Peppers performed at Toronto Sketchfest, earning them the peer nominated Sketchiest Sketch Troupe award, but their sketch debut was at the 2024 Sketch to the Death competition in Toronto where they took home the Best Newcomer Award. Since then, they’ve been writing and performing sketch and improv all over the city and sending each other texts like “jealous ghost bit” ever since. (They ask that you please not take that hilarious idea as they’re still working it out.) While these three ladies have nothing in common with Anthony Keidis, they CAN’T STOP making each other, and audiences, laugh.

RED HOT SILI PEPPERS Photo

They love a good/bad joke, putting a hat on a hat, and committing so hard you really will wonder if it’s maybe too legit.

GILLIAN BARTOLUCCI Photo
JON BLAIR (Toronto)

After bringing the house down at last year’s Sketchfest, solo sketch comedian and former Best of Fest winner Jon Blair went to the back of the theatre to stand perfectly still until this year’s festival needed him again. We spotted him really early on and were like “hey” but he’s been really committing to standing perfectly still back there and pretending we didn’t notice him even though we clearly all noticed him. We didn’t really know what to do so we just started leaving food there overnight and coming back to find it gone in the morning, which is why now there’s that rumour about a ghost in the theatre (there’s not a ghost, it’s just Jon eating the food at night). At Christmas we decorated him, kind of half as a joke and half as like “we want to involve you in Christmas” but he didn’t start moving around even from that. Now he’s back for Sketchfest 2025 and we don’t know what he was thinking about this whole time but hopefully it was a whole bunch of brand new one-man sketches and monologues!

From weird freaks from his real life, to political figures from our current dystopia, to Kronenberg-ian body horror there’s something for the whole family. You will barely realize this is a Solo Sketch show because of how many freaks will be there! (And some friends of his might drop by)

JOY PROVISION (Toronto)

Joy Provision, made up of Rena Taylor and Ethan Resendes, have had the pleasure to strut our stuff at TOsketchFest (Producer’s Pick 2022), Montreal SketchFest (Best of Fest Showcase), Philly SketchFest (Winners of The Most Likely to confuse Taco Bell for the Liberty Bell), as well as had the pleasure to perform at the DC Improv with our buddies over at Bad Medicine. We recently produced our show as a part of the Inaugural Ladyfest Toronto with Hillary Yaas! Both graduates of the York Theatre program, these two clowns bring theatre sensibilities to create comedic art.

BEACON OF HOPE (Montréal)

When Nicky and Marty met at med school they knew they were destined for so much more. 10 years later they formed a sketch comedy duo called beacon of hope. A year or so after that they won best new troupe at Montreal Sketchfest. And now here they are again, back at it. It’s amazing what a number of years of hard work can do. Nicky and Matt never graduated.
