LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

At Théâtre Sainte-Catherine, we acknowledge that our work in Tiohtià:ke takes place on unceded & stolen territory. Before colonial contact, this land was home to the St. Lawrence Iroquoians. Today, Tiohtià:ke is recognized as the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk), members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, who are the rightful caretakers of these lands, waters, and resources.

We recognize that Tiohtià:ke has been a dynamic convergence point for nations, peoples, and traditions for millennia. It has long served as a place for Indigenous peoples to live, meet, and exchange, including but not limited to the Huron-Wendat, Algonquin Anishinaabe, and Atikamekw.

We recognize that we create theatre on land that has been a site of human creativity and storytelling for thousands of years. With humility, we are grateful to live, create, collaborate, play, and work here.

OPENING NIGHT

THURSDAY APRIL 30th | 8pm | TSC > OPENING NIGHT with LEGITNESS (MTL), TONY MCINTYRE (MTL), A.C. BIRCH (TO) and HOT METAL PLAYGROUND (TRAVERSE CITY, MI)
LEGITNESS (Montrèal)

Legitness is a Montreal based comedy duo that will keep you guessing if they’re dating, siblings, or just really awkward roommates. They’ve smooshed together Brooklyn Melnyk, an actor and long time award winning sketch comedian from troupes such as Tongues, Side Salad and Don’t Not Talk to Strangers with accomplished actor Noah Labranche. Labranche has appeared in 6 movies, 2 upcoming video games, and 3 episodes of Heated Rivalry (for realzies). Together they have performed in several local shows and festivals. Along with their “professional acting training™” they bring lots of commitment, big characters, and incredibly stupid jokes all wrapped up in a charming sketch comedy package. They will be tackling heavy hitting issues like business lingo and why it’s impossible to buy anything full price at the Gap all with a heavy dose of absurdist realism. As they like to ask each other when they write “is this funny, or just stupid?” They’ll never tell 😉 Come down to the show to find out 😉 😉

TONY MCINTYRE (Montréal)

Tony McIntyre is bringing his many clown personas to Montreal Sketchfest as they compete to be the best of the best, whatever that means. They will look to wow the audience and ensure they are doing the best they can as they compete for a supposed gold medal or maybe it is just a gold star sticker given by the audience. Tony has a background in clown, improv, and stand up. As a clown he has focused on modern clowning that is inspired by the clowning scene in LA and idiot work clowns. He performed his debut clown show, Mouse Trap!, at the 2025 Montreal Fringe Festival where it was meant with highly positive reviews. He has been bridging the gap between clown and Standup introducing new character and stories to the world of his standup. As a standup he has performed at the ComediHa 2024 festival and Just for Laughs 2025 Festival.

HOT METAL PLAYGROUND (Traverse City, Michigan)

Hot Metal Playground is the comedy duo of sisters Kali and Janée Marie Meadows. They grew up on whole milk, sketch comedy, and a relentless DIY spirit, filming camcorder sketches and building worlds from whatever was lying around. Their voice is fearless, weird, and rooted in unforgettable personalities shaped by a lifetime of creative mischief and that uncanny, unspoken shorthand only sisters from Northern Michigan who like milk share. Their sketches feature bold, memorable characters that feel larger than life, and sometimes just a little too real.

2Here to remind you that you belong, Abby’s been gracing the stage since 2018 with the “I belong and so do you” vibe. SARAH CONWAY (Toronto)

Sarah Conway is a Toronto-based comedian, actor, and writer with roots in Vancouver and St. John’s. She is heavily inspired by DIY and alternative comedy, with influences ranging from CODCO to Conner O’Malley. She strives to make comedy shows that feel like punk shows, full of abandon. Her work is raw, earnest, and deeply silly. She finds inspiration in both her own experiences and the dumbest stuff she can think up. From burlesque to live music to characters grounded and absurd, Sarah brings mischief and delight to the stage in a sort of live-theatre appetizer platter. She explores the beauty in mundanity, the complex and painful idiosyncrasies of everyday life, through the dumbest bits she can think of. Sarah Conway reaches for low-hanging fruit on a sky-high ladder and NO she is not working at heights certified!!! As an actor, Sarah has worked in theatres from coast to coast in classical comedies like The Flying Doctor and one-woman dramas like The Shape of a Girl. She has appeared on CBC’s Son of a Critch as both Reporter and Local Reporter. Sarah has performed at sketch shows across Canada as well as at Toronto Sketch Fest, Newfoundland Sketch Fest, Ladyfest Montreal, and the Cam Wyllie Sketch Comedy Invitational. Using methods like lying and cheating, she snagged the victory at the 2026 Sketch To The Death competition in Toronto. To find out more, visit sarahconway.ca.

ANDERS YATES (Toronto)

Anders Yates is a solo sketch comedian originally from Montreal who now lives in Toronto but simply can’t stop coming back to Montreal every single chance he can get. Winner of the Montreal Sketchfest’s Best of the Fest Award, Anders has been hailed as “One of Toronto’s very best comedy performers, […] Yates is as surefire as it comes!” (My Entertainment World). His comedy career stretches all the way back to the early 2000s as a co-founder of the legendary improv and sketch comedy troupe Uncalled For, and later as an original member of the wildly successful comedy/dance troupe Dance Animal. Anders has since been a cast member in the Second City’s National Touring Company and was a frequent contributor to the satirical newspaper The Beaverton. His performance in the horror/comedy short Bath Bomb garnered numerous award nominations across the festival circuit, and he can (briefly) be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. This year, Anders brings a collection of his favourite sketches from across his catalogue, a mix of old and new. He promises that no matter what, the show will be very stupid and very gay.

ISAAC KESSLER (Montréal)

Le Petit Juif: An Isaac Kessler W.I.P. My father once told me that Life is but a walking shadow and/or a Work In Progress. I took this to heart; and so, mon ami, I invite you to join me as I strut and fret my 10 minutes upon the stage until I am heard no more – or until the host comes back out. I will regale you with tales told by an idiot, full of sound (effects) and fury, and probably also try out some bouffon bits. As the Bard once said: “Watch me W.I.P. Now watch me. Nay, nay!” Isaac Kessler has been “in” comedy for 20 years. He’s a 4-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee, and one half of the award-winning 2-MAN NO-SHOW alongside Ken Hall. He directed five award-winning Clown/Bouffon shows. His solo show 1-MAN NO-SHOW, directed by Gordon Neill, has won awards too: Artists’ Pick – Edmonton Fringe / Artists’ Encore – Cincinnati Fringe / Best of Fest & Best Specialty Solo Show – 2025 Orlando Fringe. Check out 1-MAN NO-SHOW at this year’s Montreal Fringe Festival at Petit Campus! “You can’t make Art without #awards.” – Oscar Wilde

BURNT TOAST (New York City)

Burnt Toast Sketch Show is a high-octane, fourth-wall breaking, absurdist take on sketch comedy, specializing in high-energy scenes that commit to the bit. We’re talking props, we’re talking sound effects, we’re talking fake blood capsules and covering a woman in actual grocery-store sushi. And we ALWAYS have a musical number. Our act tends to hit you hard and fast, so our hour-long shows usually have between 20-30 sketches in them (but we’ve done nearly 40). That’s damn near a sketch a minute! We also like to get the audience in on the fun by having them read the title of each sketch out loud. Sometimes, the titles are the best part! Behind the scenes, we start our writing process by doing improv, and then we take the best, weirdest, most out-of-the-box ideas from our jams and refine them until they are fully-written sketches. We do topical, we do timeless, we do clownish nonsense — we do it all!

Cheap Wine has been described as: “the perfect blend of deadpan and whackadoodle”, “successfully unique”, “joyfully absurdist”, “raunchy and fun”, “so fully alienating that I dissociated”. This show is about doctors. Cheap Wine is family. For real. As in, two of them lived together as children and two of them live together now as life partners and they’ve all known each other since before they could (legally) buy their own cheap wine. That’s sweet and wholesome, also kind of weird! They won the Audience Choice Award at Toronto Sketchfest 2025, sold out their wine-tasting comedy show ‘Is It Juice?’ and were voted the 2023 Toronto Sketchfest ‘Sketchiest Sketch Troupe’. They’ve performed in festivals and shows throughout Toronto and across North America together, including most recently at Second City Toronto and Toronto Fringe Festival, and they’ve created award-winning film sketches along the way. This is their 4th Montreal Sketchfest (🤞🤞🤞), and they are so honoured and excited to be here. They have a website that is http://www.cheapwine.cheap (yes, really) an Instagram that is @itscheapwine.

Just come along for the ride! They promise it’ll be fun! Active from 2000 to 2010, the Understudies retired and then resurfaced in 2022 and have since played in the past four Toronto Sketch Comedy Festivals, winning the Producer’s Pick award in 2025. BIG OL’ MESS (Denver, Colorado)

Big Ol’ Mess is a sketch comedy group from Denver, CO, but a Big Ol’ Mess show is not your typical sketch show. Their performances range from smart to dumb, leaving audiences cackling and enamored. Each show is carefully curated with original soundtracks and transition music — all created by the performers themselves — yet the vibe stays fun and loose, as these veteran improvisers welcome discovery and hilarious chaos within every sketch. No two Big Ol’ Mess shows are the same, but see one, and you’ll be in love.

JON BLAIR (Toronto)

Jon Blair is an extraordinarily convincing scarecrow made of mop handles, old clothes and crumpled up alt-weekly magazines which, when properly jostled around, looks very much like a man performing absurdist character-driven solo sketch comedy. It has previously won Best of Fest and Best Newcomer at Montreal Sketchfest, toured at festivals across Canada and the US, and somehow landed a recurring role on the CBS sitcom Ghosts. Also the mop part of the mop is its hair.

2 SAME GUYS (Nelson/Vancouver)

Michelle Hart and Allie Entwistle have both been performing sketch comedy for over a decade. Their credits include Just For Laughs Vancouver, The Second City, Toronto Sketchfest, The Portland Sketch Comedy Festival, and MSC Cruise Lines. They’ve been performing apart for years, afraid of how powerful they would become if they came together on stage, but have decided to risk it all this year to perform together just for you at Montreal Sketchfest. The result? A hybrid show where they each perform their own solo character work, before bringing their characters together for scenes that burn so bright, you legally shouldn’t watch them for too long. The result is part solo show, sketch collaboration, and part live experiment in whether two actual maniacs can share a stage.

POTATO POTATO (Toronto)

Potato Potato is an award-winning Toronto Sketch Troupe that combines the talents of a diverse group of comedians to find humour in Canadian politics and climate change, fueled by a combination of training in musical and devised theatre. Potato Potato’s comedy is current, political, and environmental, taking the opportunity to address the harsh realities of our time and laugh in the face of it all. Part political satire, part sketch show, and with a generous dose of dread about our planet’s future, Potato Potato takes the issues facing Canadians today and presents them with a comedic, oftentimes musical, spin. Potato Potato was established for the 2019 Toronto Fringe Festival, with It’s Getting Hot in Here! (My Entertainment World Favourable Review, Chosen for Second City’s JCB Series).
